Project: Digital Strategy for Shire’s Global Day of Service
Role: Strategy Lead, Content Creator, Designer
On October 2, 2015, more than 1,400 global Shire plc employees joined together in their respective communities for the Company’s first Global Day of Service in aid of dozens of charities and non-profit groups.
I coordinated four members of Senior Leadership to host a “Twitter Takeover” and live tweet throughout the day at multiple service day locations, including participation from our CEO, Flemming Ornskov. In addition to coordinating Senior Leadership participation, I got a legal and regulatory exemption from our existing social media policy (at the time, which was “don’t”) to engage employees around the world to participate via their personal social channels by posting updates from their locations using the #ShireGDS hashtag to both celebrate the service and impact and connect us for the day as One Shire. This was achieved by employee education around social media as well as providing sample content.
Together we generated hundreds of posts throughout the day, engaged with dozens of employees online, and exceeded our service goals by more than 3 times.
